It is not easy to catch a toad. They are fast and can elude you when you get close to them. Make sure once you catch one you return it to the spot you found it. It might have family living there.

Kneel down and cup your hands around the toad
If you decide to pick it up, the toad may water on your hand. They do this when they get very nervous.(its not pee its water released from a water bladder)
Do not do anything harmful to it
This is not only mean, but a form of animal cruelty, and you can even get fined for it. Put the toad back where you found it so it can go about its business again.
Tips
- Be very quiet. Toads have good hearing.
- Don't make sudden movements.
- Look in backyards and gardens.
- Cup your hands around it so it does not jump out and get hurt.
Warnings
- Don't keep the toad you catch. The toad's well-being is at stake.
- Some toads can be poisonous!
- It is illegal to catch some types of frogs and toads, so if you see a very brightly colored one, or a toad that you've never seen before, you may want to stay away. It could be endangered.
